RMG workers block Nabisco crossing March 22, 2010
Vehicular movements on the busy city road from Nabisco crossing to Satrasta crossing came to a halt for one and a half hours on Monday as readymade garments workers blocked the road to realise their demands.
Several vehicles were also vandalised during the blockade. Police constable Lal Mia sustained injuries when the agitating workers hurled brick chips during the barricade. The staff and workers of a Korean garments company Focus Fashion Limited blocked the road around 9:30am as the authorities on Saturday declared the factory laid-off. The garment workers from nearly 20 garments of Tejgaon industrial area also joined them. Local sources said about 200 staff and workers of the Focus Fashion went on movement to realise their different types of demands including enhancement of production rate and enrichment of their annual increment. The blockade however was withdrawn at about 11:00am with the intervention of police. Source: UNB, Dhaka
